Eating with the seasons and choosing local produce not only helps the environment but can also be wallet friendly. As we enter November, for those meat eaters amongst you, we start to see game appearing in the butchers shops. Foragers can stumble across mushrooms (take care to check carefully as some species are toxic), which are abundant in the fields, you can also find nuts and wild greens. See below for the British produce currently available in wholesale markets around the country (as detailed on the Defra website). If you do fancy harvesting from nature the Countryfile website has a handy guide to what's in season, how to identify it and what to do with it once you've got your harvest.
